Rental House Rejecting a Certificate of Insurance

There are various reasons why a rental house may reject a Certificate of Insurance (COI) you have generated for them. Whether the coverage isn’t sufficient or there are other specific requirements, here is how to approach this:

Common Reasons for Rejection and Solutions

  • Increased Coverage Requirements
    • Increased Replacement Cost Limit, Theft from Unlocked Vehicle, or Extended Coverage Term:
      • If the rental house is asking for these changes, you can easily update your policy from your online dashboard at InsureMyEquipment.com. Once updated, generate a new Certificate of Insurance to reflect the enhanced coverage.
  • Incorrect Company Listing
    • Company Name on the COI:
      • If the rental house requires a different name listed, you can generate a new Certificate of Insurance with the correct information from your dashboard. This will not incur any additional premium. Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com, go to your Dashboard, and click ‘Issue a Certificate’. Instead of selecting the rental house from the drop-down menu, click ‘Create New Certificate Holder’ and enter the requested information.
  • Additional Insured Requirement
    • General Liability Coverage:
      • If the rental house requires being listed as an Additional Insured, you will need General Liability coverage in addition to the existing property (inland marine) coverage. This can be added through InsureMyEquipment.com. Click ‘Get a Quote’, then ‘General Liability’, and apply for short-term coverage to match your rental dates. Liability coverage starts as low as $10. After purchasing the policy, generate a new Certificate of Insurance listing them as Additional Insured from your Thimble.com dashboard.
  • Additional Coverage Requirements
    • Worker’s Compensation, Umbrella Liability, Auto-Liability, or Physical Auto Coverage:
      • If these coverages are required, your current policy will not be sufficient. Confirm with the rental house if these additional coverages are mandatory. If so, request a policy cancellation from your dashboard and seek a package production policy elsewhere. InsureMyEquipment.com offers Rented Equipment (inland marine/property) coverage and General Liability coverage but does not offer Auto-Liability, Umbrella Liability, Worker’s Comp, or Auto Physical Damage coverage.
  • Non-Acceptance of Online Insurance or InsureMyEquipment.com Insurance
    • Non-Acceptance of Provider:
      • If the rental house does not accept insurance from InsureMyEquipment.com, you can cancel and request a refund. Go to your dashboard, request cancellation, and state the reason. Our team will respond promptly.
