Certificates of Insurance
Borrowed Equipment2023-11-06T10:10:21+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Insuring Borrowed Equipment

  • Policy coverage considers ‘Borrowed Equipment’ as ‘Rented Equipment’.
  • As long as there is a written agreement between the owner and borrower of the equipment, no moneys must be exchanged for the Rented Equipment policy to provide coverage.
  • Regardless of whom you borrow from (whether a friend or a stranger), the terms of the period you are borrowing should be in writing (the length you’ll be borrowing, the value of the borrowed equipment, etc.)
  • You may use a Rented Equipment policy to generate a COI to the owner of equipment you will be borrowing.

Letting Someone Borrow Your Owned Equipment

  • Be cautious when letting someone borrow your owned equipment.
  • When you knowingly release your equipment to a third party, coverage no longer applies. This means that unless the borrower has coverage, your policy will not cover any loss or damage that occurs while the equipment is with the borrower.
  • If you purchase False Pretense coverage, your equipment would be covered in the event that the borrower never returned the equipment, or refused to participate in a claim proceeding
  • You should always require your borrower to have Rented Equipment coverage and to issue you a COI listing you as Loss Payee

Certificate Verification2023-11-06T10:14:15+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

At InsureMyEquipment.com we give our clients the power to generate certificate of insurance from their online portal 24/7.

If a COI is generated and your address or company name is incorrect, your client can simply issue a new COI with the corrected information.

Verify a Certificate of Insurance (COI)

  • The COI will have arrived by email from notifications@insuremyequipment.com or our staff with emails ending in heffins.com.
  • If a client is a first-time buyer with us, you will see an indication in the body of the email. Refer to our ‘Fraud Prevention Guidelines’ in those cases.
  • Open the COI PDF document. You should verify your clients’ information, the policy start and end dates, and the limits of insurance (on page 2).
  • Go to www.InsureMyEquipment.com/VerifyCertificate and enter the unique code found on the last page of the COI. If a duplicate pops up, the COI is indeed valid. If you receive an error message, please message our staff right away, as the COI may be doctored.

Additional Information

  • Policies expire at 12:01AM on the expiration date
  • None of our policies include an ‘Unattended Vehicle Exclusion’.
  • Some of our policies exclude coverage for ‘Theft from an Unlocked Vehicle’. If you see the wording ‘This policy does not include coverage for theft from an unlocked vehicle’ on the last page of the COI, there is no coverage. Your clients can add this to their policy from their dashboard if you require it.
  • Deductibles are found on page 2 of the COI. The minimum deductible is $500 for domestic claims
  • The minimum deductible is $1,000 for international claims, and claims arising from theft from a vehicle
  • There is a $25,000 max limit while in Mexico, unless the COI states otherwise
  • If you wish to  be listed as additional insured as well as loss payee, our client must purchase liability coverage too. You will receive two separate COIs (one listing you as Loss Payee and the other listing you as Additional Insured). This is perfectly normal.

Certificates for ShareGrid2023-11-06T10:41:31+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

  • After you have purchased a policy, go to your Dashboard.
  •  Click the link  ‘Issue a Certificate’
  • Select ‘Send a Certificate of Insurance to a Rental House Partner’ and select ShareGrid from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Continue.
  • ShareGrid will automatically receive your Insurance Certificate and should verify coverage immediately thereafter. If ShareGrid indicates that they are waiting for an agent response, please notify them that you have already generated a COI from InsureMyEquipment.com. They should need no further response.

Custom Wording on COIs2023-11-06T11:06:26+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

In certain cases, you will be required to add custom wording to your Certificate of Insurance. For example, financing/leasing institutions will often require you to list your lease number and equipment explicitly on your policy. Other companies may ask that specific wording is listed in the ‘Description of Operations’ section.

Customizing the Wording on your COI

  • Email support@insuremyequipment.com with the following information and allow up to 24 business hours for a response.
    • Subject: Custom COI
    • Provide:
      • Your policy number and name
      • Rental House or Certificate Holder Information (Name, Address, Email, Contact Name)
      • What is required in the Description of Operations section.

Or better yet…  Forward us the email you received from the rental house, or financial institution, which includes the information above. We can be reached at support@insuremyequipment.com

Note: It may take up to 24 business hours to return a customized COI. Please plan ahead!

Leased/Financed Equipment2023-11-06T11:14:51+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

If you are financing or leasing equipment through a bank or other institution, you will find that you are required to provide proof of coverage or they will purchase insurance on your behalf.

You can apply for the Owned Equipment policy to insure your leased/financed gear.

After you have purchased your policy, you will need to generate a Certificate of Insurance for the financing company which includes your lease number and the specific equipment you are leasing/financing.

Listing your Leasing/Financing Vendor as Loss Payee Only

If you are being asked to list the vendor as “loss payee” only, it means that your financing institution requires you to have both property coverage coverage only.

You can apply for the Owned Equipment policy through InsureMyEquipment.com and generate a COI immediately after policy purchase.

Apply for an Owned Equipment policy online at InsureMyEquipment.com. Make sure to include the details (make, model, serial number & replacement cost) for any items individually valued above $2,000. You do not need to include that information for lower valued items.

After policy purchase, generate a COI from your dashboard. Find the link, and click ‘New Certificate Holder’ then enter in your financial institutions details, including their email. They will receive the COI electronically in real time.

Listing your Leasing/Financing Vendor as Loss Payee and Additional Insured

If you are being asked to use the language “loss payee and additional insured” it means that your financing institution requires you to have both property coverage and liability coverage.

You can apply for both policies separately through InsureMyEquipment.com, and generate certificates of insurance from each policy

Add Custom Wording on a COI

Sometimes companies will ask us to list specific information in the ‘Description of Operations’ box or in the ‘Comments’ section of a Certificate of Insurance. This is possible, but unfortunately can’t be done online.

If you need custom wording on your COI, please email support@insuremyequipment.com with the following information:

Subject: Custom COI

Provide: -Your policy number and name

-Company name, Address, Email, Contact Name

-What is required in the Description of Operations section.

Or even better, forward over the email you received from them which includes the insurance requirements and custom description wording. Allow up to 24 business hours for custom COI requests

Loss Payee2023-11-06T12:58:39+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Adding a Loss Payee

  • When renting equipment from a rental house, individual, company or location, you will be required to list that party as a “Loss Payee” on your insurance policy.
  • The Loss Payee designation guarantees that if a claim is filed for their equipment while in your possession, they will be the party to which payment is remitted.
  • “Loss Payee” designation only applies to property policies (also known as Inland Marine policies) such as the Rented Equipment policy.
  • You can do list your vendor as Loss Payee by purchasing a rented equipment policy. After policy purchase, you will have access to generating certificate of insurance through your Dashboard at InsureMyEquipment.com.
  • To issue a COI, you’ll need the following information from your vendor:
    • Company Name:
    • Company Address:
    • Email Address:

Please Note: You can only list a company as Loss Payee if you have ‘Rented Equipment’ coverage added to your policy.

Renting From Multiple Vendors2023-11-06T13:01:20+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Renting from more than One Rental House or Vendor at Once

If you rent from more than one rental house, use just one policy to cover the rentals.

Be sure to select your policy limit (value of coverage) as the total value of all equipment rented at one time.

For example: You’re renting equipment from Adorama valued at $10,000, equipment from KitSplit valued at $5,000, and your Sound Operator is bringing his owned equipment valued at $3,000.

You will purchase one Rented Equipment policy with a limit of $18,000, and issue COIs to Adorama, KitSplit and your Sound Operator.

One policy, one price– as many COIs as you need.

Update/Correct a COI2023-11-06T13:03:34+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Was a COI generated with an incorrect address or the wrong company spelling?

This can easily be remedied through the client Dashboard online at InsureMyEquipment.com

Create a New COI with Correct Information

  • Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com and navigate to your Dashboard
  • Click the link to “Issue a Certificate’ or ‘Create New Certificate’
  • Do NOT click the company name from your current certificate holders (it will simply re-create the COI with the wrong information).
  • Instead, click ‘Create New Certificate Holder’ at the bottom
  • Fill in the correct information for the Rental House or Certificate holder including their email address.
  • Click Submit.
  • The new COI will be effective immediately after it is issued, and you can simply ignore the old and incorrect COI

Additional Insured2023-11-07T07:04:48+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Adding an ‘Additional Insured’

When a rental house, studio, company or individual asks to be listed as “additional insured” or “additionally insured” on a certificate of insurance, they are asking that you provide proof that you have General Liability Coverage. You cannot list anyone as ‘Additionally Insured’ on a Rented Equipment policy.
If you do not already have liability, you can apply for a short term liability policy.

After policy purchase, you will be able to generate a COI from that policy which lists them as Additional Insured.

Certificate of Insurance (COI)2023-11-07T07:05:25+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

A Certificate of Insurance (or COI) is a statement of coverage issued by your insurance broker. Usually 1-3 pages, the COI provides a summary of your insurance coverage to companies or individuals with whom you are doing business.

The COI extends coverage to third parties when they are listed on the COIs as “loss payee” or “additional insured”

Rental houses, studios or individual owners of equipment will often require a COI before they release equipment to you.

You can generate COIs from your dashboard online at InsureMyequipment.com after policy purchase. You can issue as many COIs as you’ll need, free of charge.

Issue a Certificate from your Dashboard

  • Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com and click on your Dashboard
  • Click the link ‘Create New Certificate’ or ‘Issue a Certificate’
  • Either select a company that you have worked with already, or, click ‘Create New Certificate’
  • Click the button next to our Rental House Partners. Check the list to see if your rental house is listed there. If so, select and Submit
  • If your rental house is not listed in the drop-down menu, click ‘Create New Certificate Holder’
  • Enter your Certificate Holders’ details (Name, Address, Email) and click Submit
  • They will receive the COI by email, and be listed as a Loss Payee under your policy

Deductibles2024-05-16T03:50:20+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Deductibles

Understanding Deductibles

An ‘Insurance Deductible’ is a specific amount that the insured (you) must pay before the insurance carrier issues payment for a claim. Essentially, it’s the sum subtracted from an insurance payout.

Application of Deductibles

The highest applicable deductible will be applied in each claim scenario. Your deductible is applied per claim, not per policy period.

For claims involving rented equipment, you’re responsible for paying the deductible amount directly to the rental house or certificate holder.

Deductible Options

When applying for coverage, adjusting deductibles can impact your premium. Opting for higher deductibles can lead to a discount, while lower deductibles increase the premium. Carefully consider the amount you’re willing to pay out of pocket in case of damage or loss.

Available Deductibles
  • Standard Deductible: This is the general deductible applicable to all claims within the United States, excluding theft from a vehicle. Options include $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500 & $5,000.
  • International Deductible: Applicable to claims outside the United States, with options of $500, $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.
  • Theft from a Vehicle Deductible: Applicable to claims arising from theft from a vehicle, with deductible options of $500, $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.

For further details or assistance in selecting deductibles suitable for your needs, please contact our support team.

Unscheduled Equipment2024-05-16T03:33:46+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Unscheduled Equipment

Understanding Unscheduled Equipment

When insuring your personally owned gear, your overall equipment limit is divided into two categories: unscheduled equipment and scheduled equipment. Scheduled equipment comprises items individually valued over $2,000, while unscheduled equipment includes everything valued below that amount.

Unscheduled Sub-Limit

Your ‘Unscheduled’ sub-limit represents the total amount available for reimbursement for repair or replacement of all items valued under $2,000.

Example

For instance, if you apply for $25,000 in owned equipment coverage and list your laptop valued at $3,000 and your camera valued at $5,000 as scheduled equipment, the remaining limit of $17,000 will be allocated to ‘Unscheduled’ equipment valued below $2,000.

Documentation Requirements

We do not require a list of your unscheduled gear. However, it is advisable to maintain a record for your own reference, including the make, model, replacement cost, and copies of proof of purchase. This helps expedite the claims process in the event of a claim scenario.

For further assistance or inquiries regarding unscheduled equipment coverage, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.

False Pretense2024-05-16T04:00:46+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

False Pretense Coverage

Understanding False Pretense Coverage

False Pretense coverage, also referred to as voluntary parting, is designed to provide coverage for your owned equipment when it is lent, borrowed, or rented to another party who may have provided false information in the process of the rental and fails to return the equipment as agreed.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for false pretense coverage:

  • The equipment being leased, rented, or borrowed must already be included in your total equipment limit.
  • A written contract must be in place before releasing any equipment to a renter, lessee, or borrower. This contract must stipulate that the renter, lessee, or borrower assumes full responsibility for any loss, damage, or theft of the equipment while in their possession.
Additional Information
  • Deductible: The deductible for false pretense claims is 5% of the total loss amount, with a minimum deductible of $500 and a maximum deductible of $25,000.
  • Maximum Coverage Limit: The maximum False Pretense coverage available is $50,000. For higher limits, please contact us for assistance.
Recommendation

We highly recommend purchasing this optional coverage if you ever release your gear to a party you do not personally know. Without this coverage, your equipment is NOT covered if it is not returned by the renter, who rented from you under false information or through deception.

For further inquiries or assistance regarding False Pretense coverage, please feel free to reach out to our support team.

Valuation2024-05-16T00:27:29+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Valuation

Understanding Valuation

Valuation is the financial assessment of the worth of an item. In insurance, it involves assigning a dollar value to assets for coverage purposes.

Policy Valuation Basis

Your policy values equipment on a Replacement Cost basis. This means coverage extends to the cost of repairing, rebuilding, or replacing lost or damaged property with items of similar kind and quality.

Claim Settlement

In case of a claim requiring repair or replacement, reimbursement is made only after the property is repaired or replaced.

For personal gear claims, you have the option to settle on an Actual Cash Value basis instead of Replacement Cost. Under this, you receive 80% of the repair or replacement cost initially. Upon providing proof of repair or replacement, the remaining 20% is reimbursed.

How to Value Equipment

Assess the current market rate of the item you own or rent, considering the same make and model. The claims adjuster may adjust your declared replacement cost accordingly. For instance, if you bought a camera in 2018 for $4,000 and its current market value (same make and model) is $2,500, the replacement cost value would be $2,500. If you are making a claim for rented equipment, the rental house will be able to provide you with the value of the gear upon request.

For further clarification or assistance regarding valuation, please feel free to contact our support team.

Policy Expiration2023-11-07T05:52:49+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Your policy has an effective date and expiration date. The effective date is the first day of coverage. The expiration date is the last day of coverage.

You can find your expiration date within by clicking ‘Policy Information’ in your dashboard at InsureMyEquipment.com.

Your policy will expire at 12:01AM on the expiration date.

Because the policy expires at 12:01AM, renters will note that their expiration date will be one day after their selected drop off date.

For example:  You apply for a policy with an equipment pick-up date of 12/1 and a drop-off date of 12/3.
Your policy will show coverage dates 12/1 – 12/4. You are not paying for the 4th and will not have coverage on the 4th.

You can still file a claim after your expiration date, as long as the claim incident occurred within your coverage period.

Owned Equipment Limit2023-11-07T05:51:53+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

The ‘Owned Equipment’ policy limit is made up of  two sub-limits: scheduled and unscheduled equipment.

‘Unscheduled’ equipment is considered to be all items you own that are individually valued below $2,000.  Your ‘Unscheduled’ limit is a blanket limit which covers all of your smaller items that are not individually listed on your policy.

‘Scheduled’ equipment is considered to be all items you own that are individually valued above $2,000. Scheduled equipment must be added to your policy’s ‘Scheduled Equipment List’ for coverage to apply (with the make, model, serial number and replacement cost).

Additional Information

  • Your Owned Equipment Limit is made up of your scheduled items (items valued above $2,000) and your unscheduled limit. When you select a limit, the value of the scheduled items are subtracted from your overall limit and remainder is your blanket unscheduled limit.
  • For example:
    • You have purchased an Owned Equipment policy with a $50,000 limit. You add two cameras to the policy, one valued at $5,000 and another valued at $15,000. Your ‘Scheduled’ equipment limit is $20,000. Your ‘Unscheduled’ equipment is $30,000.
    • A few months later you purchase another camera valued at $3,000 and add it to your ‘Scheduled’ equipment list. Your new ‘Scheduled’ equipment limit is $23,000. Your new ‘Unscheduled Equipment limit is $27,000.

Additional Information

  • When you add a ‘Scheduled’ item to your policy, the value will be subtracted from your ‘Unscheduled’ equipment limit.
  • You will not need to submit a list of your unscheduled equipment to us. However, you will need to provide a list of any equipment involved in any potential claim, at the time the claim is submitted. Because of this, we do recommend that you keep a list of all equipment you own handy (make, model, serial number and replacement cost).
  • All other items valued below $2,000 are grouped together under the ‘Unscheduled Equipment’ limit.
  • You have up to 90 days after acquiring new ‘Scheduled’ equipment to add it to your ‘Scheduled Equipment List’ online.
  • You will not be required to “schedule” rented equipment unless the item you are renting is valued above $150,000
  • Download your scheduled equipment list from your dashboard by clicking ‘Download Policy Documents’  then ‘Download Equipment List’.

Add Scheduled Equipment to your Policy

  • Prepare a list of the make, model, serial number and replacement cost for all items you own that are valued above $2,000
  • When applying for a policy, you will be prompted to list your scheduled items before completing payment
  • If you already have a policy, log in at InsureMyEquipment.com and click on your Dashboard
  • Click ‘Update Scheduled Equipment List’
  • Add or Edit item
  • Note: the value of the item added to the scheduled equipment list will be subtracted from your ‘Unscheduled’ limit. If you do not have enough limit to transfer, you must first increase your overall equipment limit from your Dashboard.

Loss of Use2023-11-07T05:49:19+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

‘Loss of Use’ coverage is also known as ‘Business Income for 3rd Parties’. This optional coverage is available to Rented Equipment policyholders, and Owned Equipment policyholders who have added Rented Equipment coverage to their policies.

‘Loss of Use’ coverage will reimburse the rental house for their lost income while their equipment is out for repair or replacement due to a covered claim incident.

Some rental houses require you to have this coverage, and, if you do not, they may demand that you pay for their lost income while their equipment is out for repair or replacement.

For example: You rented a camera kit from Rental House ABC for one week. During your rental, the camera falls from your tripod and is damaged. The repair shop estimates it will take 3 weeks to repair the camera. The Rental House could demand that you reimburse them $1,500 for the income they will lose, while they are unable to rent the kit to anyone else.

Add Loss Of Use Coverage to your policy

  • You can add Loss Of Use coverage to your Rented or Owned Equipment policy (if you have added rented equipment as well)
  • If you have already purchased your policy but wish to go back and add Loss Of Use Coverage:
    • Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com and go to your Dashboard
    • Click ‘Modify Coverage Period and Amount’ or ‘Edit Policy Options or Increase Coverage’
    • Select your Loss Of Use amount
    • Complete payment
    • Generate a new COI if you are adding this coverage at the request of a rental house

Additional Information

  • The Loss of Use coverage is enacted 72 hours after the claim submission.
  • The max limit for Loss Of Use coverage is $25,000
  • Loss Of Use coverage cannot be cancelled or removed after purchase. Loss of Use premium is non-refundable.

Insurance Policy2023-11-07T05:46:26+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

An insurance policy is a document detailing the terms and conditions of an insurance policy. An insurance policy is used to hedge against the risk of financial losses, both big and small, that may result from damage to the insured or their property, or from liability for damage or injury caused to a third party.

The following policies can be purchased online at InsureMyEquipment.com

  • Owned Equipment policy (Inland Marine/Property policy)
  • Rented Equipment policy (Inland Marine/Property policy)
  • Musical Instrument policy (Inland Marine/Property policy)
  • General Liability

Inland Marine2023-11-07T05:44:42+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Inland Marine insurance is a specialized insurance that covers movable property.

The name for the coverage stems from the origins of insurance, where Marine insurance covered a ship and its cargo at sea, and Inland Marine insurance covered the cargo between being offloaded from the ship and reaching its final destination.

The coverage has since evolved to include various types of movable property: in this policy’s case, production equipment.

Our rented, owned and musical equipment policies are inland marine policies.

False Pretense2023-11-07T07:11:14+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

False Pretense coverage (also known as voluntary parting) is meant to provide coverage for your owned equipment while it is out for rent/borrow/lease to another party, who does not return the equipment as expected.

To qualify for false pretense coverage:

  • The equipment being leased/rented/borrowed is already included in your total equipment limit.
  • There will be a written contract in place before any equipment is released to a renter/lessee/borrower. This contract will specify that the renter/lessee/borrower assumes full responsibility for any loss, damage, or theft of the equipment while it is in their possession.

Additional Information

  • The deductible for false pretense claims will be 5%  of the total loss amount with a minimum deductible of $500 and a maximum deductible of $25,000
  • The maximum False Pretense coverage you can purchase online is $50,000. If you require a higher limit, reach out to InsureMyEquipment@heffins.com.
  • We highly recommend this coverage if you are ever releasing your equipment to a third party, even if through a reputable peer-to-peer like ShareGrid or KitSplit.

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

As peer-to-peer rentals are becoming increasingly more popular, you should be informed on your coverage and exclusions.

  • If you more than 25% of your gross annual income from rentals, you are ineligible for coverage while your equipment is out for rent.
  • If you rent your equipment to others, you should add False Pretense coverage to your policy
  • False Pretense coverage will apply if your renter fails to return the equipment as promised, or rents under false pretenses.
  • False Pretense coverage will not apply if your renter does not rent under false pretense, and returns the equipment as promised, but returns it damaged, or it is stolen while in their possession. For this reason, we always recommend that you require your renter to have their own Rented Equipment policy, and list you as ‘Loss Payee’ under their policy.
  • If you are renting your equipment to others, and you have False Pretense coverage, you must have a written rental agreement in place
  • You should know that when you willingly release your equipment to a third party, and it is no longer in your custody, care or control, coverage may not apply unless you have the False Pretense coverage added to your policy.

Here is more information on renting from multiple vendors.

When renting from multiple vendors, be sure to calculate the total value of all equipment rented at one time and set your policy limit to that amount. Then, you can generate as many certificates of insurance as necessary to all companies or individuals you are renting from.

Limit Decrease Circumstances

  • If you need to decrease your limit on a short or annual term rented equipment policy that has already started, your limit can be decreased only if you have not generated any certificates of insurance.
  • If you have accidentally set your Rented Equipment limit too high and have already generated certificates of insurance, you will want to purchase a new and correct policy so that your old policy can be cancelled and the certificate holders notified of cancellation.

Add ‘Theft from Unlocked Vehicle’ Coverage2023-11-06T13:10:17+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

While applying for a new policy, you will be prompted to select whether or not you will add coverage for Theft from an Unlocked Vehicle.

Per the terms of this policy, any theft from a vehicle where no signs of forcible entry are present, is considered theft from an unlocked vehicle.

For example: You have a keyless entry vehicle and a thief uses a signal mirroring device to unlock your vehicle and remove all of its contents but does not leave any broken glass, pulled door panel, or other sign of forced entry. The insurance carrier may deem this as “Theft from an Unlocked Vehicle” and will decline the claim unless you have coverage for theft from an unlocked vehicle.

Many rental houses will not release their equipment without this coverage in place.

We highly recommend adding this coverage to your policy.

Add ‘Coverage for Theft from an Unlocked Vehicle’

  • Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com, and go to your Dashboard
  • Click ‘Edit Policy Options or Increase Coverage’ or ‘Modify Coverage Period and Amount’
  • Click ‘Yes’ next to ‘Add coverage for theft from unlocked vehicle’
  • Click Submit and complete payment
  • Your policy will be updated immediately after payment
  • At this time you should create a new certificate of insurance for the rental house or individual requiring you to have this coverage in place.

‘Water Use’ Coverage2023-11-07T06:52:15+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

‘Water Use’ coverage is an optional endorsement that can be added on to a Rented, Owned, or Musical Instrument policy.

The endorsement will add coverage for equipment while it is being used afloat, or submerged in water.

For example: Coverage will now apply while your equipment is on a boat, barge, cruise, or any other vessel on a body of water. Coverage will also apply if your equipment is used in proper underwater housing to film footage underwater.

**Without adding this coverage, your equipment is not insured while afloat or submerged, even if the cause of damage or loss is not water related; such as theft of equipment on a cruise, or accidental damage while on a yacht.

Add ‘Water Use’ Coverage to your Policy

  • Log in to InsureMyequipment.com and navigate to Dashboard
  • Click ‘Edit Policy Options or Increase Coverage, OR, ‘Modify Coverage Period or Amount’
  • Click YES to ‘Add Coverage for Equipment Use Underwater or Afloat’
  • Add every item you wish to cover under this endorsement (no matter the value)
  • Click Submit and complete payment

Additional Information

  • The value of  equipment you wish to cover with the Water Use Coverage must already be included in your policy limit.
  • Your new underwater equipment limit cannot exceed your policy limit. You may have to increase your policy limit before purchasing this endorsement.
  • Underwater housing must be used for underwater shoots, and listed in your ‘Water Use’ Scheduled Equipment List
  • This coverage applies to all causes of loss or damage while afloat or underwater including theft, accidental damage, loss, fire, etc.
  • For coverage to apply while afloat or submerged, the specific item must be explicitly listed on your ‘Water Use’ Scheduled Equipment list. There is no blanket limit for ‘Water Use’ coverage.

‘Short-Term Rented Equipment’ Endorsement2023-11-07T06:49:30+01:00

Insure My Equipment

InsureMyEquipment.com is your quick and easy portal to get coverage for production equipment.

Annual policyholders may need to temporarily increase their Rented Equipment Limit. If you wish to temporarily increase your limit, instead of applying the increase to the remainder of your policy, purchase a ‘Short-Term Rented Equipment’ endorsement.

The ‘Short-Term Rented Equipment Endorsement’ is a rider on your policy that temporarily increases your ‘Rented Equipment Limit’ above the standard annual amount, for any period of time.

Add Short-Term Rented Equipment Coverage to your Policy

  • Log in at InsureMyEquipment.com and navigate to your Dashboard
  • Click ‘Add Short-Term Rented Production Equipment’
  • Add the value of the additional rented equipment
  • Select pick-up and drop-off dates
  • Submit payment
  •  Generate a certificate of insurance for the rental house or individual
  • When generating the certificate of insurance, be sure to ‘Select Period’ and click on the short-term endorsement period

Additional Information

  • Short-Term endorsements cannot be cancelled or refunded
  • Be sure to get a quote for the short-term endorsement, and, a quote to increase the limit for the remainder of your policy. Sometimes the latter can be more affordable.
  • When issuing a certificate, you must select the period during which the endorsement is active for the new limit to display on the COI.

    • Always require first-time to come in person to pick up equipment
    • Especially avoid shipments to first time customers living in another state

    • Make sure the credit card is valid before releasing equipment.
    • Check that the address associated with the credit card matches the address listed on the policy and rental contract

    • Or, if the customer refuses or is unable to provide project details
    • And, if the customer has no industry knowledge of any items being rented
  • Identify high-risk rentals.
    • Policies that only cover the rental dates
    • Walk-in first-time customers who try to rent equipment for the same day
    • Short-term policies for first-time customers lasting 1 day to 2 weeks
  • Communicate with other rental houses.
    • Reach out to local rental houses to find out if the same customer has attempted to rent there
    • Reach out to national rental houses via this website.
  • Register your equipment.
  • Join ESTA.org
    • As members of ESTA’s Rental Guard program, one can receive notifications from within the production equipment industry when a theft has been attempted or perpetrated. Details of the criminal or suspicious customer are provided within the email.
    • One does not have to become a member of ESTA to subscribe to Rental Guard notifications.
    • Submit suspicious activities or theft via ESTA’s Rental Guard to warn other rental houses
